Which Dog Halloween Costume Should I Choose?

Which Dog Halloween Costume Should I Choose?

Having made the decision that your pet will join your family for Halloween celebrations, the dilemma is “which dog Halloween costume“? The first question is “do I want to be unique or just part of the mob”.

Not surprising, given the popularity of Twilight and all the other scary shows, books, comics, etc., out there — the top Halloween-costume search on Yahoo over the last 30 days is … VAMPIRE!

If you’re planning to look different from everyone else this Halloween, you can forget about these costumes — they’re all on Yahoo’s top-searched list:

Top costume:  Vampire, Michael Jackson, fairy, witch, Alice in Wonderland, Tinkerbell, Batman, Minnie Mouse, gypsy, Snow White.

Top baby costume: Ladybug, flower, monkey, Tinkerbell, pirate, pumpkin, Pebbles, lion, Elvis, Minnie Mouse.

Top dog costume:  Yoda, bumblebee, horse, clown, taco, princess, devil, pirate, Batman, Dracula.

But if you want to be a little different, what is the first step? It is most important to ascertain that your dog actually likes being dressed up. If it is the first time, try any clothing, just to see how your dog reacts. If that presents no problems, then before you go to buy dog Halloween costumes either at a shop or on the internet, you need to ensure that the costume will fit. First record these measurements:

* Measure the dog’s neck – This measurement should be taken around the lower portion of the dog’s neck, in         the area where the dog collar naturally sits.
* Measure the dog’s body length – Measure from the base of the neck — a bit below where the collar sits — to     the base of the dog’s tail.
* Measure the dog’s chest girth – Measure around the dog’s torso at the largest point, usually at the base         of the rib cage.

When searching around the market for such Halloween dog costumes, you will find a variety which is sure to confuse you. There are many kinds of dresses from full costumes to part ones to accessories for Halloween. The costume you choose for him or her should be comfortable and wearable. Some dogs are very relaxed socially and love to show off their outfits wagging their tails but there are a few pets that are not very comfortable with a “head to paw” costume. Dog parents whose dogs seem to be uneasy with heavy Halloween dog costumes could opt for Halloween accessories to give them the Halloween look. You could even choose for them part Halloween dog costumes having head gears with neck pieces. And if you feel your dog is not even comfortable with a head gear you could just get him a Halloween themed bandana or a Halloween collar, but avoid Halloween dog costumes that come together with accessories such as necklaces and charms which are very delicate and can be swallowed unintentionally by your pet.

Whether you are invited to a Halloween party or hosting it, do not forget to buy the best possible outfit amongst available dog Halloween costumes for your cute companion that would synchronise with the theme and also make your pet look outstanding. Hurry and order dog Halloween costumes right away!

Halloween Costume Ideas

Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas

Yes, the economy sucks right now and we’re all trying to dig ourselves out from a mountain of debt, but what do we do if we want to celebrate Halloween anyway? It sucks big time to not have the money to buy a professional costume, but not to worry. I’m here to help with several homemade Halloween costume ideas.

First off, this is one from an old movie that I’ve always loved the idea of and I think could work well (though you will need to explain it to some people). It’s the Law Suit; basically, what you do is to scour the web for various legal documents. A simple Google search should bring up plenty of material for you. Print out around thirty of them or so and then go and grab your Sunday suit. Use some safety pins to pin the legal documents all over your suit and lo and behold, you’ve got a lawsuit (Law Suit, get it?).

Okay, for the ladies who don’t mind showing off some skin, try this on for size: Get one of your most scanty looking dresses – something tight fitting would be best and wear a pair of long boots together with it. Add in tons of makeup, much more than you would ordinarily wear, maybe die your hair a funky color as well and well, you know. . .just make sure you can explain to any cops who stop you that it’s a Halloween costume and you’re not a “working girl.”

Okay, how about this one for a homemade Halloween costume idea: The Michael Jackson look. Basically, you can choose how far you want to take this and how much effort you’ll put into your costume. You want to use either a hair press or a curler to give your hair one of those Michael Jackson looks. If you have short hair, you’ll need to buy a wig. If your hair is not the right color, dye it black. Next, use some light powder to give your skin a Michael Jackson style look.

Add in a black jacket with some silver tassels across it (you can buy and glue or sew the silver tassels on from any craft store) and some black pants. Complete the look with a flat black hat. If you can get your hands on a campaign hat from some political party, you could paint it black for a cheap and close approximation of Michael’s hat.

These are of course just a few ideas. The list is endless. Try and experiment and tell your friends about your homemade Halloween costume  ideas. They’ll thank you and you’ll both save money in the long run.
